Jen Arnall-Culliford | A Year in Techniques + Boost Your Knitting | Saturday signing 9 - 12
Jennifer and her husband, Jim, founded and run A C Knitwear. Together, they produce technique-led publications that use patterns from talented designers, supported by photo and video tutorials, to empower hand-knitters to learn new skills and unlock their full knitting potential.

Jen’s  brain loves to unpick technical knitting issues, and she is so happy that her day job involves helping other knitters to find their own “A-ha!” moments. She started out as a technical editor, working with some of the biggest names in the hand-knitting industry. She worked with independent designers, yarn companies and publishers, to ensure that their pattern instructions were a joy to work from. She has a reputation for consistent and accurate pattern writing, as well as detailed and easy to follow tutorials. And she’s a giggle to work with. Jen is a reluctant designer, but sometimes an idea is just too persistent to be ignored. She's led by a fascination with techniques in combination with a love of her local area and bird life.

Meet Jen when she signs her two books with us,Saturday and Sunday, from 9 - 12!

Vickie Howell | The Knit Vibe, Saturday book signing, 10 - 1
Vickie Howell is the creator/host of The Webby Awards Honoree and Tellys People Choice Award Winner, The Knit Show with Vickie Howell, the first studio-quality, community funded, internationally accessible, episodic knitting series. To date the show’s channel has over 350,000 views, and viewers watching from 19+ different countries.

Vickie is well-known as the host of TV shows including DIY Network & HGTV series, Knitty Gritty, host and co-executive producer of Telly Award-winning PBS show, Knitting Daily with Vickie Howell. She is also an internationally recognized blogger, speaker, CreativeLive and Brit+Co. instructor, social strategist, and author. Vickie has produced thousands of hours of programming through a variety of channels including her podcast, CRAFT*ish, and the longest-running Facebook Live series in the genre, Ask Me Monday.

Vickie has had several co-branded product lines and worked as a consultant, spokesperson & ambassador for major brands including Yarnspirations, Land’s End, JoAnn, Ragu, Cannon, Inkjoy, Thirty-one Gifts, and Visible Mobile.

As a young woman (age 19) in the entertainment industry, Vickie learned the hard way that her gender meant she had to work harder and smarter to get ahead. After leaving TV production to raise her first two kids, she found her entrepreneurial skills kick in as a sanity saver during those difficult first few years as a new mom. Before blogs or Etsy, she was one of the first few to start online handmade businesses which laid the groundwork for her reemergence into the work she loves: DIY and broadcast. There’s a scrappiness one must have when creating something for themselves, as well as the necessity of staying true to one’s passions.

Vickie strives to motivate and inspire people both to live creatively and make a living being creative. Her subscription box business YarnYAY!, melds retail with the nurturing of that community and has sold out almost every month since its 2018 launch. Her 13th book, The Knit Vibe: A Knitter’s Guide to Creativity, Community, and Wellness (Abrams) hits shelves in October.

Follow all of Vickie’s projects on social media. You can find her @vickiehowell everywhere except Pinterest, where she’s @iamvickiehowell.

Barbara Benson | Big Yarn, Beautiful Lace Knits | Saturday signing 10 - 12 & 1 - 4:30
Barbara Benson, has a new book, Big Yarn, Beautiful Lace Knits. She is also the author of Mosaic & Lace Knits: 20 Innovative Patterns Combining Slip-Stitch Colorwork and Lace Techniques.
Detailed, creative and innovative knitted accessory patterns that are well written, yarn conscious, and fun to knit.
My work focuses on creating detailed and beautiful accessory patterns. I love a small project because it means I can conceivably get it done within a month or two, instant gratification on a knitting timeline. Also, I despise weaving in ends. If I can get away with only one or two skeins of yarn then I have fewer ends to weave in.
While my first love is lace, color-work is a close second (mosaic in particular) and I have a definite soft spot for interesting textures. I keep waiting for cables to seize my imagination and can foresee the day when they become an obsession, but that day has not yet arrived. One obsession that has arrived and is here to stay is photography.

Clara Parkes | Vanishing Fleece, Saturday book signing 1 - 3
Clara's new book, Vanishing Fleece,  is "...a fast-paced account of the year Clara Parkes spent transforming a 676-pound bale of fleece into saleable yarn, and the people and vanishing industry she discovered along the way."

Author of five other books including the New York Times bestselling Knitlandia, Clara has dedicated her life to figuring out what makes yarn tick—and finding the right words to write about it. She turned passion into profession in 2000 when she launched Knitter’s Review, the first comprehensive online knitting magazine and community.

Since then, through her writings, workshops, books, television and radio appearances, custom-sourced yarns, and yarn consulting services, Parkes has championed the notion of paying closer attention to what you knit and where it came from.

Clara will be signing books at the Merritt Bookstore space in Building B.  Please make sure to join us for her talk about her new book, on Sunday at 10:30 in our Tales of Yarn space!
